iTunes dynamically generates a direct link to WebTalk Show page in iTunes. Just click on this link to go directly to the player page. This is a cool feature if you have the new iTunes 4.9 installed. I have added tags in my podcast RSS feed to make a logo and show description that Apple can display on my iTunes page. I do wish that all of the podcasts in the category directory of podcasts had a page that displays a graphic and description. I do think that finding podcasts is still rather confusing in iTunes. It appears to have two ways of getting to podcast content. One after it has been subscribed to and the other is a categorized opml like directory display that seems to be cashed with a single show. The show it is playing for WebTalk is from April 30th and is very old. It was at the bottom of my RSS feed. I have since updated my podcast RSS feed and it has yet to change the show in the directory playback listing. I hope it updates daily, but has yet to do it. I created a album art like logo that is linked to within the podcast RSS feed. I am hoping that Apple will pick that up eventually. I am hearing that some shows are getting slammed with traffic and one delivered 1.5 Terrabyte of show data in 12 hours. It appears that iTunes is having an impact on podcasting. It has also sparked another round of media attention as I have been getting calls from newspapers like the San Jose Mercury News wanting to talk about the impacts of iTunes on my show and the industry. I do like the fact that iTunes has a mixture of types of podcasting content and has shows from commercial broadcast, public radio and small grassroots podcasters. |
